Sounds to me like you should invite them out to shoot some reactive targets themselves so they can see how safe they are, and a blast to shoot! If they become familiar with the targets, they'll be less likely to frown on their use.mekender wrote:The local rednecks here in NC with badges tend to frown on stuff that goes boom. Re: Tannerite Question
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Re: Tannerite Question
This is a state where you have to get a permit to purchase a handgun. Most of the reason that law was created was for Jim Crow reasons. Now it is used by sheriffs to wield their power. The rules they put into place for getting a permit are akin to the CA "may issue" rules. Thankfully our CCH permit bypasses the need for the purchase permits and the CCH rules are state mandated so sheriff's have no discretion in the requirements to get one like they do for the purchase permits.
The Good 'ole boy's network is alive and well here, and many of the guys with badges will make sure that you dont forget it. (dont get me wrong, i have very good friends in law enforcement, but the guys in charge are the problem)

Re: Tannerite Question
Is it really? If so, can you quote your source for that info, I am quite interested in obtaining any such source material especially as relative to New York State. Thanks. It is also perfectly legal in every state to blow something up, especially on private property with the permission of the property owner.
All the best,

Re: Tannerite Question
One of the other guys on here has a video of some tannerite detonation... Might give you some indication of how loud it is compared to the gunshot. But yeah, 50 yards should be more than enough, as long as you're not using a huge charge. The one in the video is a bit larger than a standard "recommended" tannerite charge, but it's close enough for our purposes.

I think it was Randy who mentioned sidewalk chalk. It's colorful and fun!

Re: Tannerite Question
We ended up using pumpkins, melons, water bottles, and bowling pins. The new shooters had a lot of fun, sadly my friend who's birthday it was couldn'tmake it but hopefully we'll do it again in the spring.
