AR mag Cleaning/lubing

The place for general talk about gun, shooting, loading, camping, survival, and preparedness related tools and gear, as well as gear technology discussion, gear reviews, and gear specific "range reports" (all other types of gear should be on the back porch).

AR mag Cleaning/lubing

Post by Rumpshot »

How often, what type of cleaning product?

How much of what to lube?

Just picked up two steel mags at J & G Sales this morning along with one Thermold. They don't carry PMAG's. :(

Both steel mags came in ziplock bags and were wet with lube/preservative. What should I do before heading out in the morning to test them?

One thing to watch for on the Thermolds (and Orlites) is feed lip cracking.
They will do this just sitting around loaded let alone when dropped or slammed into a weapon.

Age and abuse don't seem to be as much of a factor as one would think, however abuse could cover being left in a patrol car and going from freezing to hinges of hades hot in the course of a year also.

Get the PMags, you won't regret it. I've had good luck with the C Products mags, too.

One of the steel mags is a real honest to God Colt. Both have the light green followers.

What is the recommended dry lube?
