300 million plus just since NICS started.
Somewhere around 25 to 30 million surplus and C&R weapons.
Untold millions of pre-1994 guns:
7 million Winchester Model 94s
357,000 Colt 1873
2.7 million 1911s just in U.S. military contracts.

The likelyhood is that the 600 million is off by quite a bit. Many people speculate it's closer to 1 billion, give or take a few hundred thousand.

I always wondered about the 300m number used in news reports and why it hasn’t moved much in a decade or more.

Especially when NICS regularly set new records for number of checks in a month for most of the Obama administration.

Plus muzzle-loaders, of course.

This is why my plan for world-wide military small arms control consists of feeding the American surplus market. Collectors in the U.S. will outbid thugs and warlords...and put the guns into vaults where they will be nice and safe.
