Is it .38 special or 38/200? Does it have the U.S. Government roll mark on the top strap?
Looks like .38 Special is visible in the rollmark on the right side of the barrel.

It’s 38 Spl. If I remember right, the Victory Models that were issued to US troops didn’t get the US Property stamp.

I worked on the grips tonight to match them up a little better.

Very nice. I like mine a lot; I paid more than you did though I consider it a fair price. Its a joy to shoot too but for me it works much better with the magna-style grips you took off than the issue grips. I kept them, of course.

Will you try to get a factory letter?

I have a Victory Model in .32-20. Before anybody screams "IT CAN'T BE!!!" it "IT IS be!" but it's not original, of course. I bought it as a .38-200; someone had hacked the barrel to 2'', and I just happened to have a .32-20 cylinder and a 4" .32-20 barrel and tools and experience and a park tank and a sense of whimsey and .....it just happened. (And a lanyard loop, too....)
I'm not old--It's too early to be this late.

There's just something about a firearm that shows its use. Character.
