A hot load in a .45 ACP uses a 185 gr. bullet loaded to 1100 fps. A standard pressure 10mm gives a 180 gr. bullet at 1200 fps. But 1911 platforms were not intended to work at those pressure levels, so there's all kinds of work-arounds to keep from beating the gun to death, like heavier springs, different firing pin stop, etc. (I'm sure there's more, those are just the ones that come to mind immediately.)
But there ain't many troubles that a man caint fix, with seven hundred dollars and a thirty ought six."

I'm one of those guys who doesn't shoot .40 S&W well. .357 mag, .45 acp, heck, even .44 mag I do fine with, but I can't shoot .40 worth a darn. I can't imagine that I'd do well with 10mm, if it's really an amped up .40 (and yeah, I'm aware that the .40 is downloaded from 10mm specs).

The firing pin stop with very small radius makes a very noticeable difference in recoil sharpness and feel; its also closer to what JMB originally put on the 1911 .45 ACP; the .gov made that change to the larger radius t reduce the effort needed to rack the slide.

I've shot a Glock 20 and a Glock 23.

I much prefer the 20. I hate the .40 S&W.

Can confirm, 10mm via G20 is downright pleasant.

I have a Kimber 10mm 1911 and a Colt 10mm 1911. Their magazines don't interchange.

I can't see getting a Ruger 10mm 1911 and have another 10mm single stack magazine that looks exactly like my other 10mm single stack magazines, except they won't fit and feed in any other gun

They improve accuracy, but decrease reliability. Also they hinder one-hand reloading and clearing.
They may increase spring life. They do nothing for accuracy. They hinder disassembly and prevent certain 1-handed reload drills. The tungsten weighted ones used in some gaming guns reduce muzzle flip though of course standard steel or aluminum ones do not.

Bull barrels mean no bushing, and a properly fitter bushing increases accuracy. As a result of going with a bushingless design the barrel is now proprietary, so you can't swap in a nice bar-sto or other match barrel.

The short history of the 10mm is that it was adopted by the FBI to attempt to give them .45 acp performance without adopting the .45 for internal political reasons. This was after the infamous "Miami Shootout" where the FBI blamed their equipment instead of the agents basically doing everything wrong they possibly could.

Fast forward to today:

The 10mm gives you one more round in the mag compared to the .45, and when loaded with 200 grain or heavier hard cast bullets offers considerably better penetration when dealing with dangerous game.

If loading 180-200 grain bullets for self defense the performance is comparable to the .45 but obviously has a much flatter trajectory, and of course, you get the aforementioned extra round.

In terms of absolute inherent accuracy, I remain convinced that the .45 has a slight edge due to to the fact that it is subsonic, so trans-sonic instability is never an issue.

The only 10mm I've fired was Chris's 1911 and it was much more pleasant to shoot than my .40 Hi Power.
