Try a number of factory loadings, and see what it likes best in terms of feeding and accuracy.
For plinking and practice, it's hard to beat anybody's whitebox FMJ .38s.
It's also hard to beat a carbine that shoots the same round as a handy .357 pistol on your hip.
If you don't have one of
those, you know what you're buying next.
And get a scabbard or case to be able to tuck it behind a truck seat or in a car trunk, for "just in case" situations.
With pockets for a cleaning kit and a couple of boxes of shells. And fill them with such.
