Thanks Hornady... (300 BLK brass FYI)

Post by JustinR »

Just a heads up to anyone reloading Hornady 300 Blackout factory loaded brass, they are putting a military crimp on the primers.

Their virgin cases, at least the early ones I bought still headstamped 300 whisper, are normal, and I suspect their new unloaded brass is fine too. I would guess they are crimping the primers on their 5.56 factory ammo and didn't bother to change the tooling. Just a friendly heads up. I wouldn't doubt other manufacturers might do this as well, although the Remington blackout I fired doesn't appear to be crimped around the pocket.

Luckily I only smashed two primers before I figured out what was going on.

Good to know; that's lame. I have a few of those cases, but I don't know if any of them are the newer ones with the BLK headstamp.
