I was getting cabin fever and also wanted something different to eat, so I bundled up an waddled the icy side walks for the half block to Wall-Mart.
While there I cruised their ammo supply. Still no 7.62 X 39 but down in one corner they had a .50 caliber ammo can that had on it, "Made in Turkey" and a paper label saying it had 1000 rounds of 55 grain FMJ of 5.56 X 45. There was no one around at that time of the morning that I could talk to and the price was four hundred and something. I was curious though if it was the equivalent of M855 or S109?

I see the same item here at our little supercenter. It says NATO-STANAG 4172, which I believe is M193.

A box of 20 was $7.49 at the last ammo sale. (37.45 cents a per round)

When I was buying 5.56X45 from PMC back in the 1980s, it was 25 cents per round.

AIM Surplus was advertising Carl Gustaf SS109/M855 for $429/1000. It sold out rather quickly. I almost bought some, but got cold feet at the last minute. I imagine it'd be great ammo, and heard it was hot stuff. Downside for reloaders is that it's Berdan primed.

I have some of that I bought pre-hysteria. I don't have a chrono, so I can't attest to velocity, but it barks pretty good out of my ARs. Accuracy is fair to middlin'. I surely wouldn't pay a premium for it now.

I spoke to some very nice Turkish gentlemen at last year's IWA. There is no problem having ammunition made in any calibre you like, and the prices are reasonable, but the minimum order is 1 000 000 rounds!

That should be about a day and a half's worth around these parts...

The Turks are usually pretty serious about guns, ammunition, and knives. Just for grins I would have liked to have known if that ammo was boxer primed.... Is there a brass catcher in my future?

Are you talking about ZQI ammo? According to their website it is boxer primed.
