What's a Knight without his magical sword?
Terry Pratchett made himself a sword from meteorites.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom,...Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you...; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

You know what's really sad about all this?
This...
This...
Pratchett has stored the sword, which he completed last year, in a secret location, apparently concerned about the authorities taking an interest in it.
He said: "It annoys me that knights aren’t allowed to carry their swords. That would be knife crime."
Years from now our children and grandchildren living in a 3rd world America will ask "What were you doing on March 21st 2010 and why didn't you stop it?"

Sir Pratchett has, I believe, made his stance on weapon laws clear a few times. He has particular fun with the idiocy in Men at Arms.

It's been years since I read one of the Discworld novels, but yeah, if memory serves, that was when the citizens of Ankh-Morpork got around the sword ban by rising up with gardening tools.Aaron wrote:Sir Pratchett has, I believe, made his stance on weapon laws clear a few times. Seems he's going on strong in spite of the Alzheimers'.

Naa, the citizens of Ankh-Morpork have been getting around the sword ban throughout the series. Men at Arms featured the first firearm on the Discworld. Which had a will of its own and made the owner kill people.
I imagine Sir Pratchett was in danger of pushing his tongue through his cheek while writing that.
