Illinois again

Post by Rich Jordan »

Governor Quinn, as expected, is trying to f*ck the people of Illinois again (except for the crooks).

Governor Quinn Moves To Give Criminals A Fighting Chance

CHICAGO, July 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

Muggers, murderers, robbers and rapists breathed a sigh of relief today as Illinois Governor Pat Quinn handed down his amendatory veto of the state's long-awaited concealed carry bill. In issuing his veto, Quinn severely restricts how and where law-abiding citizens may carry defensive firearms. In essence Quinn's move nullifies the benefits of concealed carry thereby tilting the playing field once again in favor of violent criminals.

"Self defense isn't some sort of carnival game where the house stacks the odds against the good guy," commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "We're talking about defending the lives of everyday Illinoisans here. The new restrictions appearing in Quinn's amendatory veto encumber good citizens to the point where carrying concealed becomes pointless – which is exactly the intention of the Governor and his friends in the gun control movement. Quinn's move is a slap to the faces of the various groups that pulled together a concealed carry bill capable of passage through both chambers of the General Assembly."

"I'm confident that the General Assembly will override Quinn's amendatory veto," continued Pearson. "The leadership in both the House and the Senate have come too far to allow a politically-unpopular governor hit the reset button on this very important issue."

The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

Quinn uses amendatory veto and tramples CCW HB-183

According to a copy of the governor's veto message obtained by the Tribune, Quinn moved to ban guns from all places that serve alcohol, allow people with permits to carry only one concealed weapon that can hold only 10 rounds of ammunition, required guns to be completely concealed instead of partially, give employers more rights to regulate guns in their businesses, and removed a provision to prevent home-rule towns from enacting assault weapons bans.

"I have carefully reviewed every part of this legislation. This is a flawed bill with serious safety problems that must be addressed," Quinn wrote in his veto message. "Therefore, I am compelled to use my constitutional authority to rectify several specific issues, to establish a better law to protect the people of Illinois."

While the Democratic governor is within his powers to recommend changes for lawmakers to accept or reject, Quinn’s move also raises the possibility that the General Assembly could fail to agree on either option and leave Illinois with a wide-open gun law that even sponsors of the concealed carry law have sought to avoid ...

Will the commies ever give up? IIRC, the governor's office was involved in crafting the bill that passed. WTF?
Buy ammunition and magazines.

I actually agree with Quinn that the law sucks, just not for the same reasons.

Quinn's veto overridden, so the bill becomes law.

Now supposedly the state police get 6 months to 'set up' the machinery needed to handle the applications and training requirements. This is the same ISP that is supposed to process FOID applications in 30 days _by law_ but is usually weeks to months behind. And the chicago gun demo-nazis are already pushing for new bills in the senate to implement some of Gov. Quinn's increased restrictions.
