RIMFIRE MATCH

Description:

The Rimfire Match is identical to the "STEEL CHALLENGE" event as seen TV and as shot around the country, except that rimfire firearms are used exclusively. Procedures are described below. The idea is to address five or six targets as rapidly as possible while placing a hit on each target. Targets are placed so that shooters of all abilities can be successful.

Objectives:

To provide a recreational shooting venue for rimfire handguns and rifles that is friendly to beginner and intermediate level shooters. To create a safe, supervised environment.

To help shooters improve target acquisition and engagement while under time constraints.

Procedures:

Stages are shot under the supervision of a Range Safety Officer. A maximum of 10 rounds are loaded to engage five or six steel targets (5 for handgun and 6 for rifle).

A maximum of 10 rounds are loaded to engage five or six steel targets (5 for handgun and 6 for rifle).

The shooter addresses the targets from the low-ready position. At the start signal, the shooter engages all targets with one hit and shoots the stop plate last.
A timer is used to record the overall time used by the shooter to address the target string. After reloading, the string is repeated four or five times with the times recorded for each string. The score is the total time taken, less the slowest string, plus penalty points, if any.

Penalty points in the form of additional time are added for targets missed or for procedural errors.

Participants have the choice of including or excluding their scores from the tabulation prepared after the conclusion of the match. Scores are distributed by e-mail to those choosing to participate.

When:

Third Saturday of every month with setup starting at 8:30 a.m. and the shooters meeting starting at 8:50 a.m. Shooting commences at 9:00 a.m.
Feel free to come early and help set up.

Who:

Members of the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club and non-members are invited.

Where:

At the shooting facility in Alpine located on Sequan Truck Trail owned and operated by the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club

What to bring:

Any handgun and/or rifle with any sight configuration, gun bag or case for storage between stages, 300-500 rounds of .22 ammunition, up to 5 speed loaders or magazines, eye protection (shooting glasses), hearing protection and a desire to have some fun.

Fee:

Club members fee is $5 and guests pay $8 to help defray the cost of paint, score sheets used and wear and tear on the targets. As a non-monetary fee, all participants are expected to help in the conduct of the event by helping with setup, tear-down, range safety officer duties and score keeping.

Range Rules:

A number of "common sense" range rules are used for the safety of all participants:
· Firearms are handled only at the shooting box under the supervision of a Range Safety Officer. Otherwise, all firearms shall be bagged or in a case until ready for use.
· The range is a COLD RANGE, which means that all firearms are in the unloaded condition except while being used to engage the targets.
· While engaging the targets, shooters must observe the "180 Rule" which means that loaded firearms must be pointed down range at all times.

Other Information:

Targets consist of metal targets only. Targets are scored as a hit or a miss.
Multiple shots may be taken at each target until hit up to a maximum of 10 shots total.
The Range Safety Officer can answer any questions participants have about the rules.

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

Sounds like fun. Almost like plinking, but you have numbers you can brag about.
I wish my youngest (16) would develop an interest. All I can get from him, when I want to take him shooting, is a yawn.
If time, chance and random process can produce a platypus why not an ammo tree?

We occasionally play Nintendo's Duck Hunt together and he shines.
