February east coast group shoot / gathering

Post by Precision »

I am a member of a hunting lease in GA that has 1800 acres. I have access 365 days of the year and outside of deer (Sept 12- Jan 15) and turkey (March 20 - May 15) season I can bring unlimited guests out to enjoy the property.

This is just the beginnings of an idea, BUT I am thinking that during one of the off seasons would be a great time to have a meeting of like minded people, burn through some ammo, cook up some food and have an all around good time. We could make it a weekend.
The property is contiguous (less 170 acres). There is an area of about 12 acres that acts as our campsite (room for campers / tents etc). Power is by generator. Water is from a 250 gallon reservoir that has a pressure feed pump (not potable) and can be easily refilled from a neighbor's well. This is RURAL Georgia north of Statesboro.

Currently there is a rudimentary (log and earth) backstop and about a 200 yard range. Improvements to that are on my short list for next month's work party.

I know there is a meeting of us out at Rumpshot's Revenge out west. I was thinking this could be something similar but in the south east.

Suggestions for a theme, ideas to make it fun, improvements to the range/backstop, ideas on when, people who might be interested are all greatly appreciated.

About 5 hours away for me -- not too bad a drive though -- MB to Charleston to Savannah. How far is the property from Savannah?

Mapquest "Dover, GA" and that will put you within about 5 miles.

Basically it is up (or down) I-95 to exit 102 then take 80 west a few miles then take 17 N for about 25 miles.

I takes me about 40-50 minutes from exit 102.

For non-coastal people, there are tons of ways to get there on smaller roads.

Ok, so I am thinking some time in February. After Valentine's day, don't want anyone to get in trouble over that. Its a mid point between deer and turkey season. The weather shouldn't be too cold and it certainly won't be too hot for anyone. Not too much likelihood of snow and the rainy season won't have started yet.

Of course it is also sooner than waiting until after turkey season, which I like.

Now I haven't been to Rumpshot or any of the other similar events.
How do they normally run?
How formally do things normally get set up?
Do we want to make it a weekend?

Help me out with suggestions.

[strike]I don't have enough vacation time left this year to make the drive from VA.[/strike]

[strike]Next year though maybe.[/strike]

Hmmm. I might have to block out a couple of days at work for the drive time.

It looks like about a 7 hour drive for me. I'd really like to come. Can we plan it to be over a traditional 3-day weekend so I'll be allowed to drive the distance (Presidents' day)?

I'm moving this to Regional Announcements (chances of us west coast folks making this are pretty slim, as much as we might like to).
