East coast shoot 2nd edition date picked

Post by Precision »

Hey guys.

Sorry that between Valentine's day and 20-30 inches of global warming the turn out for the first annual Precision's East coast shoot was NOT well attended.

In the vein of learning from my mistakes, I am asking the membership when a good time would be to hold the Second Annual Shoot and hopefully have some additional people shooting the hell out of things, telling lies and sharing good food.

My thoughts:
February was obviously too early this year as the global warming attested to
Valentine's day trumps the practicality of an extended weekend
Deer season opens on Sept 11 and ends on Jan 15th
Turkey season starts on Mar 20th and ends on May 25th
I have access to the property at any time except during hunting season

When would my east coast brethren be interested in giving this another go?

Where, again?

I'd say mid-to-late spring might be optimal - plenty warm but not yet hot & muggy...

oops.

Yeah, I guess the location would be good to know. OOOPS.

The closest small town is either Sylvania or Dover GA, which are about 45 minutes north and west of Pooler GA (at I-95). The closest "real" town is Statesboro GA which is about 20 miles south of the lease land.

I will get my brain wrapped around this over the next few days and set up a date for shooty goodness.

Lets see if by avoiding Valentines day and 2 feet of SNOW we can't kill some targets, beer and good food.

A reason for a trip to visit my grandson in Georgia is always welcome, and a shootin' reason is even better. Since turkey season extends into late May, looks like maybe early June??

If I'm very good, 1st week of June works well for me -- if I've screwed up, then the plant is going nuts, and I'll be sleeping in the office.

June it is.

May 15th is the last day of Turkey Season in GA. So that is way past season end.

There should be VERY little activity on the lease. I will invite the guys from hunting / warn them that we will be up shooting up the place.

Tentatively Pencil in June 4-6, 2010 for the second East Coast gathering. I have to confirm availability of the lease, but should not be a big deal.

For those coming in Friday evening, we could meet for dinner at one of the local restaurants.

There is a local buffet that does a good Sunday morning meal.

Coyote hunting is an option if anyone wants to. We have plenty but it will be somewhat challenging as the place is non-burned forest, but there are some open areas.

Email me for my cell number for "got lost directions"

For mapquest-- search Dover GA

Zoom it in TIGHT

Effingham Highway (17) crosses Statesboro Highway (301) at Dover
Follow 17 east from that intersection and you will see Cameron Rd
Take Cameron North
Turn east on Thompson (mapquest name) Street sign says Twisting Pine
The entry is about 1.5 miles down
you will see a white road gate on the right, then one on the left about 200 yards later.
The one on the left is the entrance road to the main part of the property and the camping area.

Accomodations:

My parent's RV won't be up there
My buddy's camper should be. In a pinch it can sleep 7 guys. More comfortable is 5 guys.
We have a Communal camper that can sleep 4, I can bring a shop vac for that one.
Tents, pop ups, whatever you have are fine to bring.
There are 2 "motels" within 5 miles. More like the weekly rental with permanent residents places. There are other options that I can look up if anyone wants that option.
Electricity is by generator--I will be bringing my 6800 watt
We have a 250 gal water bull with a pump for cleaning and the like. NON-POTABLE. May need filled.
We have septics in ground as well

I'm tentatively up for it, although at the moment I'm closer to screwed than ahead... (May is supposed to be slow, but then again, we tripled our projections for the end of April so...)
