East coast shoot 2nd edition date picked

Postby Precision » Fri Feb 26, 2010 3:31 am

Hey guys.

Sorry that between Valentine's day and 20-30 inches of global warming the turn out for the first annual Precision's East coast shoot was NOT well attended.

In the vein of learning from my mistakes, I am asking the membership when a good time would be to hold the Second Annual Shoot and hopefully have some additional people shooting the hell out of things, telling lies and sharing good food.

My thoughts:
February was obviously too early this year as the global warming attested to
Valentine's day trumps the practicality of an extended weekend
Deer season opens on Sept 11 and ends on Jan 15th
Turkey season starts on Mar 20th and ends on May 25th
I have access to the property at any time except during hunting season

When would my east coast brethren be interested in giving this another go?

Where, again?

I'd say mid-to-late spring might be optimal - plenty warm but not yet hot & muggy...

oops.

Yeah, I guess the location would be good to know. OOOPS.

The closest small town is either Sylvania or Dover GA, which are about 45 minutes north and west of Pooler GA (at I-95). The closest "real" town is Statesboro GA which is about 20 miles south of the lease land.

I will get my brain wrapped around this over the next few days and set up a date for shooty goodness.

Lets see if by avoiding Valentines day and 2 feet of SNOW we can't kill some targets, beer and good food.

A reason for a trip to visit my grandson in Georgia is always welcome, and a shootin' reason is even better. Since turkey season extends into late May, looks like maybe early June??

If I'm very good, 1st week of June works well for me -- if I've screwed up, then the plant is going nuts, and I'll be sleeping in the office.

Re: East coast shoot 2nd edition tentative DATE PICKED

Postby Precision » Sun Apr 11, 2010 7:16 pm

June it is.

May 15th is the last day of Turkey Season in GA. So that is way past season end.

There should be VERY little activity on the lease. I will invite the guys from hunting / warn them that we will be up shooting up the place.

Tentatively Pencil in June 4-6, 2010 for the second East Coast gathering. I have to confirm availability of the lease, but should not be a big deal.

For those coming in Friday evening, we could meet for dinner at one of the local restaurants.

There is a local buffet that does a good Sunday morning meal.

Coyote hunting is an option if anyone wants to. We have plenty but it will be somewhat challenging as the place is non-burned forest, but there are some open areas.

Email me for my cell number for "got lost directions"

For mapquest-- search Dover GA

Zoom it in TIGHT

Effingham Highway (17) crosses Statesboro Highway (301) at Dover
Follow 17 east from that intersection and you will see Cameron Rd
Take Cameron North
Turn east on Thompson (mapquest name) Street sign says Twisting Pine
The entry is about 1.5 miles down
you will see a white road gate on the right, then one on the left about 200 yards later.
The one on the left is the entrance road to the main part of the property and the camping area.

Accomodations:

My parent's RV won't be up there
My buddy's camper should be. In a pinch it can sleep 7 guys. More comfortable is 5 guys.
We have a Communal camper that can sleep 4, I can bring a shop vac for that one.
Tents, pop ups, whatever you have are fine to bring.
There are 2 "motels" within 5 miles. More like the weekly rental with permanent residents places. There are other options that I can look up if anyone wants that option.
Electricity is by generator--I will be bringing my 6800 watt
We have a 250 gal water bull with a pump for cleaning and the like. NON-POTABLE. May need filled.
We have septics in ground as well

I'm tentatively up for it, although at the moment I'm closer to screwed than ahead... (May is supposed to be slow, but then again, we tripled our projections for the end of April so...)

It's on my calendar. By then I'll be ready for another trip to visit with my grandson in North Georgia.

Cool.

Aglifter, CU74, myself and a few buddies that have been lurking on here.

Any one else gonna help us terrorize GA for a weekend?

I cannot answer for Precision, but an 11 year old, that was properly supervised, would definitely be welcome at Rumpshot's Revenge.

It is this guy, he is a better shot than I am
Image
Here he also is showing his grandfather how to shoot
Image
And he also loves to run the clay thrower

He is responsible enough that I don't have to stand over his shoulder at a firing line and still young enough that I wouldn't walk off to the other side of the range while he was shooting.

I think he would like some camping with just he and I, he always has to go places with his brothers and sister. Is anyone planning on camping?

How does a guy miss replies to his own thread???

Answer 12 hour work days with an hour commute each way.

Sorry Mekender.

EVERYONE is welcome regardless of age. We routinely have sub 10 year olds shoot with us. My hunting buddy brings his 10 year old son and a friend of ours 10 year old daughter. The girl ROUTINELY out shoots the boy. She even "tries" to steal my 10/22 every time she shoots it.

Another hunting buddy brings his 8 year old son and 4 year old daughter. They both shoot. He is a crack shot with a kids .243 and a 20 guage. She isn't so good with the shotgun, but does well with the kids .243.

As far as camping goes. You all are very welcome to tent or trailer/RV camp.

I have access to my buddies camper. Sleeps 6-8 Currently has the GF, myself and a buddy in it. There is also a "communal camper" that is fair game. Sleeps 4ish. And if needed I can ask one of the other guys about his, which sleeps 4ish as well.

Our camping area is roughly 10 acres and has plenty of open area. We even have a few septics and a generator house with cords run. We also have an electric pump on a 250 gallon water bull for non-potable usage.

Not another recruit, but I confirmed my Georgia visit with my son yesterday. We're planning to stumble out of bed at zero dark thirty on Saturday morning and drive down for a day of shooting.

Mekender - I'm probably about the same age as your eleven-year-old son's grandfather. Think the lad will give me some shooting hints?

I have had a few cancellations. The GF, her brother is in town. My local buddy, his buddy organized a benefit concert for someone and needs help in BIG way. My cousin, had a pacemaker put in a week ago....

Wondering if we are going to have partakers in the East Coast Shoot. I am planning on being on site between 1500-1700 Friday depending on when I get organized and on the road.

Very happy to send over my phone number to anyone who might need directions/for co ordinating. I have given it to those who have expressed interest.

Sadly I am going to have to miss this one. My school decided that some of the money they had given me in a refund check was in error so I owe them about $2500 before the start of july in order to keep going.

And that seriously sucks on both levels. But mainly OWING $2500 based on someone else's error. CRAPTASTIC

I have emailed everyone who I know was set / tentative to come up / down /over for the East Coast shoot this weekend. Of those I knew were planning on coming, I have talked to most and they have all been forced to back out for a variety of good reasons.

I am normally up for a weekend alone in the woods, but this time, if no one else can make it, I am going to stay home and go deep sea fishing with Survivor122 and her brother. The discretionary expenses account is kinda low to spend a few hundred dollars on a one man weekend.

Obviously, as the organizer if anyone is coming, I will gladly spend the money and tell tall tales of our great adventures.

Just let me know.

I got the email.

I feel guilty that I didn't get DD. But, weather permitting it looks like fishing.

I will try and organize another one at some point. But that will have to wait until post fishing. :D
