According to the website I looked at when I saw that, there is a raw score, the percentile score and the military careers score. The MS goes from 140 to 240, and I didn't see the range for the raw score. The percentile was the only one I was given when I took it.

Oh okay, the scores from the categories combined. I saw those, but never paid much attention, since I qualified for everything.

I scored a 96, then proceeded to blow a knee. I was only interested in one career path: I wanted to fly, something with boomsticks. Army was the only branch who offered me any hope, since I'm 5'4" and wear glasses. I still wish I could fly Apaches, but have never been able to get my knee to a point where I could pass a PT test.

Aha! That explains why I didn't score a 100!

IIRC, back in my day (late 70's), the ASVAB had five parts:

AFQT - Armed Forces Qualifying Test, max score: 99

and four vocational qualifying tests, max score: 95

Administrative
Electronics
General
Mechanical

I scored, respectively, 99, 95, 95, 95, 80

I know at least one question I missed on mechanical. It was a picture of a drill chuck, NOT ATTACHED TO A DRILL. I picked the closest thing I could think of, generator.

In the mid '80's, they revised the scores, so my new adjusted scores were: 99, 99, 99, 99, 99, 90. And yet, all seven of my attempts to retrain into technical fields were denied. Once an SP, always an SP, especially if you go SAC.

Now that I think about it, I think I didn't take the ASVAB, but the AFQT - I remember it being 200 or so questions, and blowing through it in less than 10 minutes.

My recruiter was honest with me. He told me to expect getting stuck doing scutwork until I got my 5-level, to expect turf wars within the squadron between mechanical and avionics if I lucked out and got into a flightline maintenance role, that boredom is going to be an even bigger enemy than even the Chinese or Russians, and that I'd probably wind up nowhere near a decent base at first.

It's like he foresaw me going to Cannon the entire time.

Security Police, now called Security Forces, in the Air Force. Yogi's gig.

The rule of thumb was, once SAC (Strategic Air Command) got their hooks in you, you were theirs for life. Well, career.

"I thought I was out. Then they pulled me back in." The Godfather had nothing on SAC.
