The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

after first reading of his capture I just wondered why it took so long. Aerial survey/night/thermal vision. He shoulda been bagged 10 years earlier.
I'm not old--It's too early to be this late.

Maybe his thefts were minor enough they didn't consider it worth the effort?

Maybe it evolved into sort of a game for some of them?

A very odd story, nonetheless.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D
