One of the interesting points of German immigration is that with very few exceptions they have never really gotten into American politics, at least not past an individual basis. This pre-dates WW1 or so. They were pretty heavy into the abolition / free-labor movement, but that pretty much fell apart after the Civil War for obvious reasons.
