The proper response should be to ransom hostages if it is not possible to rescue them, then hunt down and destroy the kidnappers afterward.

Question: Why are Americans in Iran?

Wasn't this already known shortly after the incident? Something about money we owed them for decades. Why is this getting picked up again now?

This is news? What do you think all those idiots wh wind up in foreign shitholes, charged with serious crimes, both real and imagined, then, we send over somebody to resolve the situation, and they get promptly released? When the tinpot dictator then gets an "aid package" a couple months later on the at? Best Korea practically invented this shakedown, and have pulled it a coupla times..

We can call it not ransom all we want, and maybe technically the money itself wasn't ransom, but getting it released in exchange for the hostages that should have been item one at the nuclear deal negotiations last year was. It doesn't matter how WE view it if they regard it as a bribe, they are as Weetabix said, incentivized.
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

An attempt to appear better than the Carter presidency, re: hostages held by Iran at the end of one's term? Just a thought.
