"One-in-a-billion" gunshot

Post by g-man »

Off duty cop in Aurora, CO gets into gunfight with two armed men. Disables one attacker's gun with a shot down the barrel. Unfortunately one of the assailants is still at large, but the other got nabbed.

More fodder for the "shoot them in the leg" crowd...

It's not as uncommon as you might think. Ten years ago, a Seattle police officer shot a suspect's revolver in the cylinder. If nothing else, it proves that the gun was pointed at the officer at the time.

Doing force on force drills with airsoft, I got hit in the hand a number of times. Aiming for the gun that is being pointed at you seems to be a common thing under stress.

Under stress, you tend to shoot at where your attention is focused. It a gun fight you tend to be focused on the gun pointed at you. It's similar to how inattentive drivers will drift into the car with the flashy lights at an accident scene.

I hate the shoot them in the leg crowd. There is this big artery in the leg that if you clip it the guy shot is going to bleed out before an ambulance even starts rolling. This is one reason that a lot of departments will punish officers who go for anything but center of mass.

That reminds me - there was some video of a robbery a while back, where the shop owner shot and ruined the would-be robber's gun.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D
