BREXIT combined thread
So despite the polling irregularities, lies, and dirty tricks from the ruling elite. Brexit passed. Of course there will now be calls for do overs and for Parliament to invalidate the referendum. The EU will say it is against some law they passed and etc. The fun and games have just begun.

Maybe there is hope for the UK.

I notice the Telegraph uses "Red" for the "Pro-Brexit" vote.
Nice to know that the "Red State" convention also works in old England.
Red was always my lucky color.

Huh, Cameron resigned.
Markets are jumping all over the place especially foreign exchange in the fare East countries . Which is interesting because it will take two years to be official. At Zero Hedge they are reporting brokers are shutting down the algo's because things are too volatile and they are afraid they'll end up on the wrong side of a purchase.
Double haw, Labor is wanting Loyd to step down.

From the predictions of doom and gloom, you would think GB just volunteered to be Ultron's anti-grav testing facility. Amazing how a simple poke against the bureaucratic power brokers has caused such a panic. Heaven forbid any people actually want to keep their sovereignty and national identity. That's just sooo passé to the progressives. Good for the people of England.

Good on the Brits, for holding a plebiscite. Maybe they'll find the way to a democratic, constitutional system instead of a monarchy eventually.
Expect the Scots and Northern Irish to seceed from the United Kindom in 3,.. 2,... in ordder to (re)join the EU. NI might even go for a referendum on Irish reunification.
The European Union (then EEC) did just fine without the UK until 1973; it'll do fine without it now too. I don't think Brexit will be good for the UK economy (especally with the banking sector already set to move lock, stock and barrel to Luxembourg). Whoever replaces Cameron need not expect easy negotiations on the Brexit modalities. They certainly won't get the golden handshake that Norway did. Expect France to be trying to capture the prestige they lost to the UK in '73, and Poland and the other eastern EU states will to be very tough in the negotiations, since they were always PO'd by the Brits and their demands for special treatment.
In the meantime, Sterling is down 10%, so I'll be bidding on guns in UK auctions while it's still possible and convenient to make intra-EU imports. Every silver lining has a cloud.

OK, I'm no euro-expert here but can someone explain why anyone in Britain would want an extra layer of government over them. Besides the people who get some money funneled their way because of it.

Any questions? Seriously though, I usually agree with most of what John Oliver puts up on Last Week Tonight regarding many topics across the world of news. But when he was like "Look, all these people say it'll be bad for the GDP of the UK"... and all of the organizations were British banking and money[strike]-laundering[/strike]lending firms, I was not too impressed. Yeah, of course the money-grubbing greedy bastards in the financial institutions will lose money over it, until they figure out new ways to screw Brits out of their money again... so they're against it. Kinda like asking the foxes about chicken pen fencing.Cobar wrote:[strike]OK, I'm no euro-expert here but can someone explain why anyone in Britain would want an extra layer of government over them. From what I'm reading, relations between the EU and Ireland are getting a tad sour over tax policy. Ireland has been attracting people and businesses with a low tax policy. Some companies in the EU have moved there so no the EU is making noises about how Ireland needs to "harmonize" its tax policy with the EU. The Irish being Irish, have been using Italian gestures when talking to the EU on this matter.
Scotland right now thinks it can go independent and live the socialists dream off of the off shore oil fields. Again The EU is talking about "regulating" those oil fields. On top of that oil prices are extremely volatile and planning a future that is based on oil price is extremely risky.

That was the point my my disclaimer about the people getting a payday from the EU. I was asking more about what, if anything, everyone else gets out of the EU.
