Re: Interesting take on Iran
Quite interesting when you read what someone who knows about what's going on has to say rather than reporting on it thru a lens of news media management:
Before we wax too eloquent about the democratic aspirations of the great Iranian people, we should keep in the mind that the most probable scenario for Iran under any likely regime is a sickening spiral into poverty and depopulation. Iran has the fastest-aging population of any country in the world, indeed, the fast-aging population of any country in history. It has the highest rate of venereal disease infection and the highest rate of infertility of any country in the world. It has a youth unemployment rate of 35% (adjusted for warehousing young people in state-run diploma mills). And worst of all, it has run out of water.
POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON
A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.
I remain pessimistic given the way BATF and the anti gun crowd have become tape worms in the guts of the Republic. - toad

Maybe I'm just not a good intel geek, but I can't see any way that this works out for the Iranian people under their current government, or any of the likely replacement governments. At some point, you're too far into the dive to pull out.
The combination of ecological and demographic "issues" make this look like a Kobyashi Maru exercise.

Well the only way to climb out of a hole starts, always, with 'stop digging'. And the mullahs in charge there are going at it with a steam shovel.First Shirt wrote:Maybe I'm just not a good intel geek, but I can't see any way that this works out for the Iranian people under their current government, or any of the likely replacement governments. Iran/Persia as we know it is almost certainly doomed. But with the mullahs, zero chance, Without them, maybe some tiny chance. Like getting rid of Obama and dodging the Hillary bullet, but orders of magnitude worse. (For them getting rid of the mullahs is like dodging the Hillary bullet.)
There are lots of fascinating things going on over there. Nobody really talks about it, but apparently Christianity is exploding in popularity there, with some estimates that there are as many as 3 million Christians in Iran now. I wonder what their birth rate is.
