Aha. Much clearer now - bureaucratic nonsense strikes again, so situation normal. Thanks for the schooling!

Here in Belgium, the PTB tried to ban extended grips for handguns that basically turn them into short-barreled shoulder-fired carbines. The courts found that a firearm is a firearm regardless of its stock configuration, so if you have a licence for it you can put whatever grip/stocks/accessories on it you prefer.

Mossberg & Remington are now selling shotguns that come from the factory with barrels that are 14 & change inches long, with pistol grips along the line of the one Speedfeed makes that looks like someone had shortened an old-school stock, so that the whole shebang is over 26" long. They thus fall into a loophole where under Federal law they're just a Firearm rather than a SBS or an AOW. I'm betting the folks at Serbu are kicking themselves for not thinking of it.
