Italian Band Denied Admission to the US.

Post by Jered »

A European band scheduled to perform at KEXP wrote in a Facebook post that when the trio arrived in the Seattle-area on Wednesday – they were detained and then sent back to Italy.
That's what happens when you are not admissible to the United States.
“We spent the night in jail and had been escorted there as though we were three criminals. The following day, after having completed all jail-related procedures (mugshots, declaration of good health and signatures), two other agents came to get us. We were searched, handcuffed and again escorted in a police car,”
That's standard procedure for transporting detainees. So, once again, it's fake news.

Here, they're trying to drum up hyperbole because the government detained inadmissible aliens until they could return to their home country.

In this case, CBP had to detain these individuals at their detention facility in Seatac because there wasn't a flight available to take them back to Italy.

Do these people even have any common sense? If there's an alien that CBP has determined is not admissible to the United States, and doesn't have a way back home, they're not going to turn them loose, and being searched is part of being detained.
The band said in their statement on Facebook that they carried an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). An ESTA, also known as the Visa Waiver Program, allows citizens from nearly 40 countries to travel to the United States for up to 90 days without obtaining a visa.
...and this is where the news starts to descend into potato territory.

ESTA is the electronic system for travel authorization. It's only a requirement of the Visa Waiver Program if you're from Chile or if you're flying to the United States. ESTA does not allow you to stay in the United States. It allows an airline to transport you to the United States so that you can apply for admission into the United States. It's not a guarantee that you can get into the United States.

The Visa Waiver Program is also only for relatively specific types of activities.

Here's a link to the news article.

From what I can see from their Facebook post, it sounds like their label cheaped out and didn't bother to get them a P-1 visa so that they could perform in the United States.

...and as usual, the moonbats are out in force trying to blame it on Trump.

Happens pretty regularly. It's all about getting the right visa to work in the US
