I bet they went home and hugged some participation trophies in mom's basement...

As my dad would say when I would bitch about stuff like this to him: "Welcome to adulthood". This is where 'we need a consensus on everything' upbringing gets us.

Notice, no mention of the intern smart enough to say, "Not only no I'm not signing that but HELL NO!" Guess that intern is still there.

My first job out of high school also had a very strict dress code. During our "internship program" our manager went so far as to make us get the same haircut from the same barbershop, made us wear the same footwear, and would check our footwear every morning for proper shine.

I'm trying to imagine his reaction if we "interns" submitted a petition to relax the dress code. We wouldn't have been "fired", but I'm sure he would have made sure we wished we were.

I know that Robert Heinlein was widely ridiculed for his idea that some form of national service be a pre-requisite for citizenship rights (including the right to vote), an idea he highlighted in his book "Starship Troopers".

I still think that's a good idea.

I bet they made you wear the exact same clothes as everyone else, too.

I spoke with my manager about being allowed some leeway under the dress code and was told this was not possible, despite the other person being allowed to do it.
The manager, legally, is probably not allowed to tell you anything.
The worst part is that just before the meeting ended, one of the managers told us that the worker who was allowed to disobey the dress code was a former soldier who lost her leg and was therefore given permission to wear whatever kind of shoes she could walk in.
Well, golly gee. The special snowflake sounds bitter.
You can’t even tell, and if we had known about this we would have factored it into our argument.
Yup. Bitter.
We were shocked. The proposal was written professionally like examples I have learned about in school, and our arguments were thought out and well-reasoned.
Because the company is obligated to listen to you?
We weren’t even given a chance to discuss it.

Sounds like someone got mugged by reality.
The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.

It took me a second to get that joke.

In a lot of ways, Heinlein was right about that. I'm not convinced it's a BAD idea the way things are going.
