The Truth About North Carolina’s Bathroom Bill

IMO this is the real meat of the issue... I for one could care less who uses what bathroom and if cities or states want to enact a law, that is between them and their voters. But they WAY overstepped their Constitutional authority and tried to impose their will, via threat of fines and force, on private businesses.

I assume by "they overstepped" you mean Charlotte and not the State?

Ayup... Same city that 2+ years after the state passed gun law preemption, still has signs up in their parks saying that carry is illegal...

And the feds have leapt the Civil Rights Act about three astronomical units outside its actual boundaries.
(e.g. if people can act WRT the law on the basis of a self-claim to "identity", then I can apply for, and sue for grants assigned to native Americans, women, and minorities, simply because I whimsically claim to identify as a lesbian eskimo. And if they subsequently fail to accede to my ridiculous request, I can sue the Commerce Department on EEOC grounds, and win. Every male aged 18 can sue for exemption from the Selective Service Act under EEOC grounds because they "identify" as women. And on and on. If the feds prevail on this, see if I don't get a lesbian eskimo-preferential SBA loan, and open a firearms research and historical institution with the funds. I expect to include a hands-on educational portion for guests. If the current Justice Department lawyers and suits in charge have shit for legal brains, you can't blame me and my 200 million strong eskimo dyke sisterhood for giving them a strap-on, sans lube.)

If the state of NC is serious about the law, and its right of pre-emption, they need to criminally prosecute the mayor, council, and executive officers of Charlotte.

And last I looked, the law only applies to restrooms in public facilities (state buildings, schools, universities, etc.).
Private owners can let whomever they want in wherever they please to piss.
It only becomes a state matter if they miss, and then it becomes a public health issue.

Ayup, but Charlotte wanted to change that and force all businesses to allow it.
