So do they just teach splatting the dog first at the academy, or what?

No, they don't teach that at the academy. I've never shot a dog, but I've had to outsmart a few. Not all of my brethren take the time to outsmart the dog.

No disrespect intended, but not all of your brethren have the capabilities to outsmart a dog.

Concur. Lots of fail in this episode, from the initial caller, through the dispatcher to the officers who responded. It is my sincere hope that everyone survives.

It's too bad most cops are afraid of the same justice they dish out for the rest of us. If some criminal shoots a K-9 officer, he/she gets charged with the murder of the officer. Thus it should be just that if a police officer shoots an innocent dog in the line of serving a no-knock warrant on the wrong house, the officer should be tried for manslaughter or murder for killing a citizen's dog. But you know the police unions aren't going to like that, and would never allow such a law to pass.

Don't be silly.

If the bastards shoot at your dog, shoot the fuckers back with your throw-down piece, and tell them afterwards they should have known the dog was armed and dangerous. And that since they were so tacticool, they should go ahead and charge his canine corpse with illegal possession of an unregistered weapon. :P

Let the homicide dicks try to figure out how a German Shepherd finished out an unserial-numbered 80% lower, and send flowers and doggie treats to the ex-officer's funeral.

I'm betting they run out of badgeholes long before anyone runs out of dogs.

Looks like the homeowner was unarmed, the shots were from 2 officers, one of the two shot the other in the hip...

I guess "probable cause" is now defined as "Our dispatcher told us that sumdood said there was a crime around here somewhere"

I don't know what makes me more pissed off about this:

A) No one will be held responsible, or punishment will be spread thin enough that it won't discourage this sort of behavior.

B) If it happened to me, my dogs would be dead and/or I'd be in jail facing a murder charge, (or dead).

C) The taxpayers will foot the entire bill, regardless.

All business as usual. With all due respect to Paw Paw and please remember, I went through the Academy and had a badge for awhile, too. But, this has to be said. Is it really that surprising that people are beginning to take matters into their own hands and pop cops, here and there? Someone on this board predicted it. They said it would be like popcorn popping; a few here and there, then a whole bunch at once.
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.
