The political implications of a tied electoral college are clear. What is less clear are the social implications. Depending on the details things could get quite intresting. Things such as a lame duck congress voting in the popular vote looser would definitely ruffle some feathers.

1) Cruz, in all likelihood, wins WI.
2) Trump, faltering, may win NFY, but he'll lose delegates to Cruz and Kasich.
3)Trump at that point has no clear path any longer to the nomination, uncontested.
4) At the convention, after the first futile ballot, all the delegates are weapons-free.
All the buyer's remorse Trumpkins either realize that GOP doesn't stand for Grand Order of Psychopaths, and slither off, or they realize what they wanted in the first place was Cruz, not Jeb, nor Hairpiece.
The wasted delegates of the politically killed-off candidates split between Cruz, and perhaps Kasich.
Cruz has momentum after the second ballot, and probably wins on the third.
If the party hacks who hate his guts chose Trump, the other 60% of the party tells them to f**k off, and they lose the general 80-20.
If they try to foist some non-appearing candidate, they lose 90% of the party, and lose the general 95-5.
If they choose Kasich, they lose 80% of the party on the spot, and lose the general 66-33.
If they pick Cruz, the lunatic fringe and operation Chaos voters go back to being Democrats who like neither Bernie nor Shrillary, and the GOP wins the general 55-45, or better, depending on the opponent.

Meanwhile Shrillary still has Sanders hanging on her ankles like a 200# terrier, and he keeps underscoring how damaged she is for him to still be giving her serious opposition.

FTR, CA is an open primary, which would favor Trump, except that he
a) won't get to 50%, and
b) the Dems who might cross over to monkeywrench the Republican vote, will be too interested in their own house to bother.
And c) when faced with the less-charismatic Clinton, vs. an outright Communist, most of Hollywood and Berkeley will probably go for Bernie.
Minorities here, as in the nation as a whole, aren't going to be very impressed by either of a pair of old white liberals. Blacks will stay home in droves, and Hispanics have Cruz as their first shot at another American first in the White House in Cruz.

And if Trump goes third party, the media, having egg on their face, will suddenly decide the Olympics are much better TV. Right media, like Fox, Rush, Hannity, Beck, et a, will savage Trump and the Trumpkins to the point that there will be a deck of cards with hairpiece as the Ace of Spades, and every supporter from Christie on down on the deck, and trump will be found hiding under bushes in a dirt bunker behind some condo in Palm beach by September.
And everyone will be chagrined that the Black Helicopter people who accused Trump all along of being a stalking horse to get Shrillary elected were, in fact, right all along.
Which is why Trump may blow off a bit after the convention, then quietly go fuck off to become a two-bit hotelier and occasional fourth judge on America's Most Annoying Novelty Acts.

If Cruz picks someone unsullied as his running mate, like Scott Walker, he takes the South, the Midwest, and the West outright, and has a good shot at contesting the Mid-Atlantic and wobbler states.

If Shrillary somehow escapes prosecution for her literal thousands of federal felonies, the Secret Service will need to draft the entire US Army to stand between her and the hail of bullets headed her way, once 300M Americans realize the law doesn't apply here any longer. Even odds whether HopeyDopey and the AG face dual Senate impeachments after the first round of incoming bullets. If not, McConnell will probably have to flee to Moscow for asylum as well, and Quisling Ryan will be in witness protection by Christmas.

Kasich, being only in the race since Ohio for his own ego and to prevent Trump from losing every subsequent state besides NY 55-45, becomes a pariah.
And the GOP establishment country club and CoC types, a la 1980-1988, get to spend two terms eating shit from the conservative wing of the party, as they should. Ginsburg finally strokes out, and Cruz gets to put the next two right-leaning strict constructionists on SCOTUS, securing things for another two decades. If Kennedy finally calls it quits at some point, we might even get a 5-block conservative side even without Chief Squish Roberts, and we can spend the next 8 years deconstructing the recent hedge of liberal idiot ideas foisted onto the republic, starting with ObamaCare and NCLB, then revisit Kelo, and finally start dismantling the Patriot Act, TSA and DHS, and there's a bare chance of getting America back sometime in the 2020s.

The looming problem of entitlements, and the impending worldwide depression actually get dealt with, and "too big to fail" becomes "welcome to bankruptcy and fraud prosecutions". Israel is hosted at the first State Dinner of 2017, and B-52s carpet-bomb ISIS into small pieces from Syria to Afghanistan. The Navy lends a hand with the deportation of 8 million Muslims across the Med to the Trashcanistan of their choice, all 2000 miles and two cultures closer to their homelands.
NATO gets some long-overdue attention and back-bracing, Turkey gets told to get in or get kicked out once and for all, Putin becomes merely a local problem for Russia to deal with, and we start paying attention to SEATO partners like South Korea, Japan, Oz, etc., and building up a Navy and Air Force sufficient to dismantle the Norks and stop China's expansion into the Westpac.

Twelve Hollywood @$$holes fail to follow through on their promise to leave the country, and at least two commit career suicide through incessant mouthing off, and are subsequently unable to get a gig ever again.

Preach it brother! :D

My only point of contention is that the people Hillary really needs to be worried about if she isn't prosecuted are the career intelligence officers with TS/SCI type access that will be livid. And they know dangerous people.

Well Cruz takes Wisconsin easily and it looks like he will be over 50%. He is still the only one running to get over 50% in any state. Trump is at his usual 35% or so except that doesn't get the win in narrowed race.

NY will be interesting. I suspect it will break towards Cruz quite a bit if Trump keeps up the crazy drunk uncle routine.

Most people have no clue how truly pissed the SF and intelligence community was about Benghazi.

My secret dream is where Hillary is found deceased in bed, with a pillow over her face......and circumstantial evidence points to Huma. 8-)

N0t to mention a lot of groundpounders at State. Navy buddy/roomie in an EE comm's engineer. Not_happy.
Basically anywhere it hits the fan he goes to set up antennas, links, comm gear. The breaking of faith and sense that you'll be abandoned and denied next Christmas in Cambodia run deep in that Dept.

fwiw, He was Sean Smith's supervisor in Baghdad where they et up all the comms for State in the Green Zone so it's personal for him too.

So... Trump wins NY, which is no surprise. but he does lose 3 delegates to Kasich, of all people. Cruz didn't help himself with the 'NY Values' comments, but it's neither here nor there at this point. The question remains: based on where we are, since it appears we're heading to a contested convention, WTF now?

Kasich needs to drop out. He should have dropped out before Rubio did. I think Rubio still has more delegates.

Cruz on the 2nd or 3rd ballot.

Trump is not going to win the nomination and knows it.
