satire, or not?

Post by Greg »

Came across this gem this morning:

http://www.duffelblog.com/2014/11/marin ... s-vehicle/

Almost spit coffee all over myself. Isn't this supposed to be a satire site?

Yeah, duffelblog is a satire site.

I really like this one. Soldier dies from massive erection after firing .50 cal. Hey! it could happen.

I have been told there is a red/green light, like you always see the paratroopers using before jumping in movies, in the Amtrak. When it goes red, the pumps have stopped and you have seconds to unass that vehicle before it starts on it's voyage to the bottom of the sea.

Source article describes our procurement process in detail.

Except for the times they flawlessly predict the future, of course.

This one was pretty funny:

“We will never forget the service members who lost their members in Iwo ‘Gina.”
I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

This, from the one I originally linked:

"The ACV is meant to replace the current Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV), known among Marines as Amtraks or “Floating Coffins,” which have been used for more than 40 years to take troops from ship to the bottom of the sea floor."

Every time I read the part in italics I can't keep from laughing out loud. The writing is pretty good. :)

Duffleblog has a difficult task: it's hard to satirize and parody the military without venturing into an accurate reporting of the facts as they will be five minutes from now.

The story about the death by M2 excitement and another story have given me an IDEA. The other story was about a man who had severe depression and he couldn't shake it. Drugs, electro shock, all failed. So he went to Mexico rented a room in a Whore house and preceded to indulge in hookers, Viagra, and cocaine. After a few weeks he realized that he was feeling pretty good so he returned to the US. The doctors were amazed that he hadn't picked up any STD's.
Since my health is bad and I'm old I'm facing the prospect that in a few years I'll have to go into "assisted" living or a hospice. The ones here in the US pretty much suck unless you have a lot of money. So I'm thinking there might be a market for a retirement/hospice in some Latin American country. The amenities, would include hookers, blow, Viagra, and an on site firing range. A deal would be arranged for residents to fire M2's and perhaps other weapons at a military range. Grenades would be right out of course.
I'm wondering if I should try a kickstarter for this project.
