Slow Cooker Recipes

Post by Denis »

So, the van of happiness dropped off a Russell Hobbs slow cooker yesterday. Nothing fancy, no timers or such, just a small slow cooker.

I think I'm going to test it tomorrow on some venison (roe deer) ribs. I reckon a quick steam in the pressure cooker to get any fat out and heat in, then slow cook them 4-5 hours in some approximation of BBQ sauce (honey, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, harissa, Worcestersauce), onions, and maybe some brown beer (if I don't just drink that myself), then flash them in a hot oven to brown and caramelise before serving...

Anybody have any slow cooker recipes they'd like to share?

Find out where to buy bulk chicken feet locally, and then make your own stock. :ugeek:

I have beef tips in the slow cooker right now, for lunch tomorrow.

LINKY HERE

I use the slow cooker for lots of things, like pulled pork, beef tips, gumbos, stews, you name it.

Mmmmm. I love chicken feet. Unfortunately, the cooks at my favourite Chinese place do too, and I never get any, because they've eaten them all...

Sounds delicious, thanks, PawPaw. What is the plastic bag in your link? A slow cooker condom? I didn't know those were a thing.

So, I started off the morning here with a croissant, then chopped and sauteed some onions and garlic, browned off the ribs in a pan (turns out they are baby wild boar, not roe deer - I couldn't read the writing on the frosty freezer bag), heated a botttle of BBQ marinade that I found in the cellar with a bottle of trappist beer, and threw the lot in the slow cooker. I'm going to leave it cook on slow all day, while I try to find my reloading bench in the garage, and dinner this evening will be wild boar ribs with azuki beans, and maybe some rice too. It smells really good already...

PawPaw posted a recipe for Italian roast beef that is simply amazing! I've done it a couple of times, with beef and venison from a really tough old buck.

When it's cooking, the air is about 300 calories per sniff!

I don't know if I can stand this slow cooking business - the aroma is irresistible, and it's still three hours to dinnertime!

Oh, yeah, those are the secret to repeated slow-coooker cooking. Several companies make them, but the easiest to find locally is the Reynolds liner.

LINKY HERE.

Little or no clean-up at all with those things. When you're making a big cheese dip for a party, you'll learn quickly to value your inventory of slow-cooker liners.

Thanks! I just looked on Amazon.de and Amazon.co.uk for those - the sellers want silly money for a few nylon bags. Looks like I might have to ask somebody to post me some from the US...

Now, how about your Italian beef recipe? :D

Ask, and ye shall receive. LINKY!

It makes a great sandwich on a hard roll or crusty french bread.
