Looking down at the skin graft on my left hand from road rash thirty years ago. I'd have to say it doesnt matter how good a rider you are,at some point some a-ho in a car is going to not see you and you are going to go flying without wings.
It's up to the big guy how much damage you suffer, but good gear is a help.
When I was riding the best gear was a pair of frye boots and an old leather jacket.
The gear today is a quantum leap in effectiveness.

Good show on trying to keep the rider alive. The organs stay fresh longer, that way.
