That would probably be more dignified than what they actually did with the character.

Copying Twitter arguments and pasting them into dialogue bubbles is pretty much directly insulting customers for paying money for your work.

I heard the next storyline for Captain America will involve a three-way between Charlie Sheen, Alan Alda, and Steve Rogers' corpse.

Right up until the adult supervision at the parent corporation steps in, and there are a lot of new job openings in the story department.
It's already a discussion topic in the commissary. :|

Keep in mind, that the character has been around for decades, so doing something new to keep the readers interested isn't exactly easy.

I still think they could do an interesting series of Thor comics, where every issue had a new wielder, thrust into the unfamiliar territory of being a superhero - remember the inscription on Molijnir -
Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor

And to be fair, this isn't the first time someone other than Thor.

True. At least you didn't have a frog or an alien bitching about intersectionality.

Yup. Which is why I wasn't in on the Chicken Littling that came with the announcement. "Calm down, Doctor. Now is not the time for fear. That comes later."

Weeeeeeell, later happened. And so far, from what I've gathered, Thor actually had a loyal female readership beforehand, and this has been the most misguided step to appeal to that audience possible, alienating many of them with its preachiness.

Shouldn't it be: "Thor is now Thorella"....?

No. Norse doesn't have the same gender markers for names as English. Urðr is apparently a female name, for example.

Beta Ray Bill didn't change his name to Thor. Holding the hammer and possessing the power of Thor does not turn one into the Son of Odin, named Thor.

This is yet another insulated 'New York City culture' based attempt at showing all those mentally and societally deficient throwbacks in the 'rest of the country' (read that as everyone but them and a few residents of enclaves on the west coast) how things are supposed to be, to be thought of and written about in a proper world where the culture whose home is in NYC is the only one.

The two big-house comic series might as well be coming from MSNBC. Just as politically correct, agenda driven, insular, preachy...
