So, I was drilling some concrete today to try and screw down the rail on my patio. I...umm...failed.

That's bit is a Bosch concrete bit...it didn't survive my 60 year old concrete. I was using a Makita hammer drill, and made it less than 1/2 inch into the concrete. In case you can't tell from the picture, that bit is ground flat.

The AF dallied with a gunpod for the F-16 called the GPU-5 which contained a GAU-13 cannon. The story is it damn near shook the F-16 to pieces and they were difficult to keep zeroed.

The AF surplused them all to the USMC.

The USMC loaned some to the Navy, who containerized them and thought they could probably get 4 containers into the deck of an LCAC. The idea is these LCACs would approach heavy obstacles on the beach and turn them into rubble. It was, according to the article in All Hands, effective. Never heard much about it again after that.

So, the proper answer would be 30mm.

I think the silver solder holding the carbide tip failed. Looks like the bit got really hot; I'm guessing the hammerdrill broke the carbide away from the bit and then the steel shank tried it's damndest to drill thru carbide, which won't happen. Unless you're sure you dug the carbide out of the hole I'd say a new bit, a new location of the hole, and less pressure on the hammerdrill, allowing the bit some lineal room to work. YMMV

Did you hit rebar, or should that bit have taken care of that? I've wrecked a bit on a direct rebar hit before.

I bought myself a concrete nailgun that should be here in a couple of days. Maybe that will work. 8-)

It's not a project without a new tool.
