welding helmet question

I picked up a Sellstrom helmet, 29911-611 for $53, which seems well under the normal online price and about the same as the generic chinese helmets at the hardware store.

"Super Tuff, Super Kool Silver Coated Helmet with 4.5"x5.25" Sel-Snap Fixed Front. Ratchet Headgear with 27611 Impulse Mag Sense Shade 9-12 Auto-Darkening Filter"

So I'm posting one of those damn 'how did I do after spending the money already?' questions. Work has killed any chance for welding classes this semester (but I plan on restarting next year) and I'm tired of the smelly scratched up Harbor Freight helmets the college has for C.E. students. This seems like a decent one.

Thanks

Coffee hadn't kicked in yet, so I parsed that as "wedding helmet question".

Heh, I am sure that some people were hoping that a wedding helmet was an option.

That's a pretty good deal on a pretty good welding helmet. I'm not a welder (I work on the theory that if I use enough heat, and enough stick, and am pretty determined with the grinder, I can achieve what I want) but the welders that I work with seem to think you did pretty good.

Of course, they work with me, so that should tell you something.

50 bucks? I'm currently eyeing Optrels for my Syncrowave, and they're over 400 bucks..

Yeah, I think last time I checked, the current version of the helmet I have been using for the last 15 years goes for around $300.

If your wedding requires a helmet, there may be various external factors that should cause you to rethink the wedding...

I'm not going to pay that much for a helmet for classes with no chance of welding at home... (HOA...) I was going to pick up my own inexpensive one (Harbor Freight style) just to get one with a clear unscratched lens and only my own sweat in the strapping, but then this one got marked down from ~$190 to $53. Seemed like a deal, and its very lightweight compared to the HF helmets. Plus its not chinese...
