Go to Settings/Privacy and turn everything off. I did. This may be why I'm having trouble signing in under the Edge browser.

Some of the guys at the linked threads were saying that you had to edit the registry by hand to actually get all of the bad to go away. They were talking over my head, though.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

My dad upgraded his laptop from Win8 and it's getting what I call a phantom command prompt. A little black window will pop up for about half a second every few minutes, with no information appearing in the window. I'm guessing that it's trying to call for an update of some kind, but couldn't tell you what.
It's currently sitting in his new IT guru's office awaiting diagnosis, explanation and repair if necessary. Thankfully he didn't upgrade his desktop computer yet.

Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."

Turning all the privacy options off was easy enough. The annoying thing is every time a new Microsoft app is run for the first time, it tries to get you to merge your local user account with a Microsoft cloud account.
'Regulate' used to mean the opposite of 'constipate.'

I wind up shutting down Edge once the computer is up, and using IE11. I might try Chrome again. On top of password problems, if I run Edge I get resource problem messages, saying memory is all tied up, and the PC shuts down.
I recently updated CCleaner after the Win10 install. It comes up with messages wanting to clean the system every few days, with massive memory dumps from 10.

The memory dumps are being created because of the crashes... That is normal...Darrell wrote:I wind up shutting down Edge once the computer is up, and using IE11. I might try Chrome again. The bigger concern is why is it crashing?
Without knowing more, I have to suspect that you might have bad RAM.
You might try downloading and running Memtest, you install it to a CD or a thumb drive and boot to it, then it tests the ram... Each pass will take 45 minutes or more and you should run several passes.

I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell laptop with an Intell 3i, and that had 8.1 on it. As time goes by it runs smoother. I've noticed that it "upgrades" about every other day. The "upgrades" mostly seem to be security patches. I ended up deleting my Chrome since it didn't seem to be compatible.

Turns out Edge isn't compatible with ActiveX anymore, which I need for a terminal emulator I use for work. Good job Microsoft.

I get the feeling that Microsoft is drifting away from backward compatible software. If you have say a Windows 7 machine then Whinedows 10 may be backward compatible with the computer to some extent. I think Windows is heading toward the Apple method. If you want to run an application on Windows 10 it will have to have Microfarts seal of approval stamped across its behind.

Considering how much a security problem ActiveX controls are, that is a good thing...JustinR wrote:Turns out Edge isn't compatible with ActiveX anymore, which I need for a terminal emulator I use for work. Good job Microsoft.
