Re: Yet another Airbus crash.
So now it turns out that not only was co-pilot batshit crazy, and had lost 30% of his vision, and frequently woke up screaming "Were crashing! We're crashing!", and often told his flight attendant mistress that "Someday I'll do something that everyone will remember me for!", but the cherry on top is that
Lufthansa KNEW every single one of these things about him beforehand, and STILL kept him on flying status.
It's time to paint Luftwaffe crosses on their planes, have the USAF declare open season on them, and ban them from US airspace for another 50 years.

Re: Yet another Airbus crash.
They probably wanted him to fly for as long as possible to get a return on their investment for putting him through Lufthansa's ab-initio zero-to-hero program. Almost no one can afford GA training/flying in Europe due to user fees. Rather than paying wages that would pay for flight school loans, the airlines there train pilots from the ground up or hire retired military pilots. Heaven forbid they not get their money back.
Of course now, they'll pay a lot more...

In the USA? Absolutely. An arguement could even be made for criminal charges, based on reckless endangerment.JustinR wrote:....Of course now, they'll pay a lot more...
However, in Spain/Germany/France............ anyone have a clue what civil or criminal laws would apply?

Re: Yet another Airbus crash.
It was noted in reports that the damages awarded will be based upon the laws prevailing in the victims' country of origin.
A US victim will cost them 7 or eight figures, unquestionably.
But EU victims, where tort claims have no provision for punitive damages or pain and suffering, are mainly based on the earnings of the victim.
So grandmothers', housewives', and students' deaths will be settled for roughly the cost of a pine box, some flowers, and the price to rent clergy and three mourners for an hour.
Lufthansa is literally out more for the airframe and the fuel lost than what they'll pay in court for most of the victims' deaths.
This is why, after recklessly endangering both the passengers and everyone over whom they flew with their asinine behavior, Lufthansa should face stiff official fines and long-term airspace sanctions worldwide.

Yea... Except I figure that the outcry might be enough that some politicians step in and make things really nasty for Lufthansa.Aesop wrote:It was noted in reports that the damages awarded will be based upon the laws prevailing in the victims' country of origin.

Politicians LOVE to be in front of cameras fighting for the little guy against the giant, evil corporation and they do not get much bigger...
I fully expect to see criminal charges and LOTS of money being paid out. Probably will even see Lufthansa selling off or disbanding Germanwings since the brand is pretty well tarnished forever.
