I wish we could move past optical drives at this point but if you want to install Windows or drivers with no internet you kinda need one.

I have copies of Win 7, Win 8 and Windows Server 2008R2 on both a thumb drive and a portable hard drive. The thumb drive is bootable and works great as an installer.
