HTML editor

Post by PawPaw »

Hey, guys.

I got a new computer several months ago, a rebuilt HP. Call it what you will, but it was very inexpensive and had almost no bundled software on it. So, I'm looking for a free HTML editor to download. One that's fairly easy to use, fairly stable, and one that is reasonably intuitive for a barely literate user. Free of course.

I'm looking for advise. Thanks in advance.

If you want to write HTML code, you can do it in Notepad. If you want something that recognizes HTML codes, I recommend Notepad++, available at this elegant and finely-crafted link.

HTML code plug-ins are available here.

They're entirely free, and there's an extensive community and lots of support. I've been using NPP for years to do other little bitty things; once my dissertation is out of the way I'm going to start teaching myself to use R (free) for the things I've been using SAS (if you have to ask, you can't afford it) to do.

Edit to add: Others may have better advice, so wait for some additional entries.

SeaMonkey is he successor of the old Mozilla all in one project; in addition to browser, email/news and chat, it has an HTML editor and other web development tools.

I haven't used it since it _was_ Mozilla but I recall it being competent. And it is free.

I've had pretty good success with Arachnophilia, another completely free (from money) program (To cut to the chase, my programs are freeware). It's "Careware". And you MUST have the Java runtime engine installed to run the program (at least the executable JAR file).

Here's a screenshot of the program:
