It's a wonder I can grow any hair on my forearm -- peeled enough skin off changing (nixie tube) Nav Display Unit out of E2-C cockpit center console/throttle quadrant.

But now thanks to Steamforger I'm thinking about a " Gentlemans Personal Communication Facilitator " - basically a steampunk cellphone using a Nixie tube display. Maybe powered by a steam turbine generator, lately developed by the estimable Mr Laval

My SIII is amazing. A HUGE step up from my Droid Bionic. The voice recognition is uncanny. When I'm driving, I can press one button and say, "Direct me to the nearest XYZ." And in a second the map and guidance are up.

I spent about a week playing around off and on with a friend's SIII recently, and I thought it was awesome. Samsung has really upped their game in cell phones in the past few years.rightisright wrote:My SIII is amazing. A HUGE step up from my Droid Bionic. The voice recognition is uncanny. Their phones used to be relatively cheap crap. Lots of checkbox features, but nevertheless crap. Poorly made and flimsy, soon to fall apart- but that's OK because with the total lack of support Samsung wanted you to buy a new one as soon as possible anyway. They were known for UI's and battery life as poor as their plastic was flimsy. (Yes, my first phone was a Samsung. Ugh.) Even as recently as the Galaxy S Samsung was putting out crap- the list of never-quite-repaired defects on that phone is daunting.
Personally I wish HTC weren't in such a hurry to commit suicide. Everything they've done since the end of 2010 has been borderline retarded. But they do tend to make attractive and sturdy hardware.

The Droid Razr Maxx seems to be the phone to beat. It finally gives battery life similar to our older phones. Yay!

Let's go necro on this one.mekender wrote:I am holding out for the Galaxy SIV that should be out in a few weeks.
I got my Nexus 4, I've had it for a few months now. It's awesome. It needs a case, seriously needs a case (the back is glass, and I'm pretty sure it's not Gorilla) but with one on it's not so frightening. I bought the 16GB model, and even with that it really needs removable storage. I can see why Google is going what it's doing, it's in their interest and they're subsidizing the phone quite a bit so I can live with no SD, but damn it still needs it. (I have around 4GB free these days, with just my ordinary stuff on the phone.)
The phone complements my Tmobile prepaid plan very nicely. The $30/month 100 minute-5GB data plan.
Did you ever get that S4?
