You're an idiot!

Post by First Shirt »

Saw the family sawbones the other day, and since (as usual) we spent about 20 minutes of the appointment talking about my health issues (there aren't any, I was just getting a check-up), and the rest of the 40 minute appointment talking about important stuff, like guns.

He was a medic in the 75th Rangers during the Battle of Mogadishu (yeah, the battle that "Blackhawk Down" was about), so we have a little bit of common ground, besides both being pretty serious gun monkeys.

Anyway, he tells me that his daughter's boyfriend was over the other day, sighting in his rifle, and he asked Doc if he needed anything sighted in while he was there. Doc says, "Yeah, sight in my .270, if you don't mind." He gives the kid the ammo and rifle, and sends him on his merry way. Little while later, kid comes back with a target, with groups centered for windage, and about 2 inches high for elevation, and asks if that's okay.

Doc says "Yeah, that's great, but you're an idiot! If my girlfriend's dad wanted me to sight a rifle in for him, I'd have him about 8 feet high, and about 6 feet left windage. At 20 feet! After all, he might someday want to use it on me, and I want all the advantage I can get!"

I told him that maybe the kid was okay, and didn't plan on doing anything that might get him shot, but he says "Maybe, but I think he's just not real bright."

Or too honest for his own good.

Yeah, that possibility was discussed, as well!

Doc still contends that the boy just ain't real bright. But he's dating Doc's daughter, so we don't expect glowing reports about him.

Now, how does Doc know that the aim point was on the paper?
The use of the word "but" usually indicates that everything preceding it in a sentence is a lie.
E.g.:
"I believe in Freedom of Speech, but". . .
"I support the Second Amendment, but". . .

Hope the doctor did a function check on the gun and checked to make sure the firing pin was still there.

Good acting requires an imagination; reality requires a person not getting lost in their imagination.
