Total Neck Breather

Tuesday, I become one. Tracheostomy. Goes along with the total Laryngectomy.

Not gonna lie to you I have some concerns. Life is going to be different.

As I told you earlier, my throat cancer came back big time. I have an open ulcer on my epiglottis. Sometimes it weeps blood. Any acidic food/drink makes it burn. Usually a constant low-grade pain in the throat.

Chemo and radiation were discussed at great length. Both could only provide palliative treatment. The surgery holds out hope for curative treatment. And should give me back a relatively normal swallow.

Looking at a speech prosthesis to be able to talk. Will probably also have an electrolarynx machine so I can do the robot voice.

Hospitalization could be up to two weeks, perhaps longer. Will be in the Mayo Hospital, Phoenix. Visitors will be welcome. I should be posting again on Wed or Thur.

A friend has an artificial voicebox from Germany, which has worked well for him, since he lost his to an IED, a few years back.
