R&B / Blues Music

Post by 308Mike »

Folks,

My wife is asking me to compile a list of R&B artists/songs for her to review so I can burn a disk of them for her upcoming birthday in December. She doesn't have a list of artists she likes, otherwise I wouldn't be asking for help. She knows what she likes when she hears it, and since I'm not a big fan of the genre, I have no idea where to start.

Are there any big R&B / Blues fans out there who might be able to help? SKB, any ideas - FYI, she likes the music from Supernatural, Season 2, Episode 8 (Crossroad Blues) - anything similar you could think of would be great!!

THANKS!

Are we talking Elmore James, Charlie Patton, Howlin Wolf, etc? Or are we talking modern "hack, spit", R&B?

Because if its the former, I have suggestions, if its the latter,, blech.

I read your comment to her and she started laughing, she likes the names you provided. Here's a YouTube link to some of the stuff she likes:

There can be only one: The Blues Brothers Rhythm & Blues Revue.

And, is Howling Wolf R&B?

ETA: the link sounds more like delta blues.
Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D

Bunch a wanna be players

How good can a mess like that sound any way?

My vote is with the Louisiana Gator Boys!

I am assuming you mean more the modern / electric blues and not the old acoustic delta blues. So based on that assumption:

Big Mama Thornton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJlBo5KJ3b4

John Lee Hooker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOyj4ciJk34 (He is also the guitarist for a lot of Big Mama Thornton's recordings)
