Old pilots and bold pilots.

Post by Termite »

Bill Wieger, fellow member of EAA Chapter 614, is both. He gets a little reckless in his gyrocopter. It finally caught up with him yesterday.
He's skinned a bit, and rather sore, but mostly OK.

Ouch. Glad he wasn't hurt more seriously.

That should buff right out. I've got a feeling it will be a while before he's flying that one again. :ugeek:

Looks like he hit a swarm of mosquitoes on short final. Glad he's mostly ok.

Care to expand on that a bit?

One of the most annoying of Bill's habits is zooming up and down the runway about 50ft off the ground during the semi-annual fly-ins........without wearing a headset hooked up to a portable radio. He's engrossed in his flying, has no commo, and may not notice other aircraft coming in to land. More than once, incoming planes on final had to do a go-around.

I'd guess those blades aren't cheap to replace, is that right ?

What do you think of the safety of gyrocopters in general ?

I'm unconvinced by rotorcraft in general, that hasn't really helped. I think I'll find a cheaper way to kill myself

Well, there is this thing called the Jesus Nut. I am told that rotorcraft aviators pay particular attention to it.
