Thinking about upgrading my shotguns. I have a FN police pump that is a safe queen. I have a Remington 870 express with that dang lock thing on it. I was thinking about trading those for a good autoloader to hopefully hit both Ducks and Dove. Occasionally (rarely) I also do some upland type of Pheasant hunting. I also hunt Turkey but I have a pump I can use for that.
There in lies the question. Which Autoloader? I can probably scrape some cash together also but I dont know if I can get a Super Black Eagle 2 or Browning Gold past the budget committee.
Who knows anything about a Beretta A303 field model? I saw it listed for like $440. Seems low dollar for a Berretta.
using it for a variety of wing shooting scenarios leaves the whole issue of heavy and light loads.
I would consider any maker... open for suggestions.

Re: Upgrading shotgun(s)
There isn't an A303 on Beretta USA's site and their cheapest MSRP $875 for the 3901 American and $975 for the 3901 Statesman...
I also like the Benelli system but it's a lot more then you're looking at now $1,400 and the sister company Franchi prices start around $840 and use the same system...I have their 48AL 28 bore that is a pure dream of a grouse gun at 5 lbs 4 oz with 26" barrel and 4 choke tubes (IC/M/F std IM & C optional) and wanting it down South this winter (Xmas holidays in Florida with in-laws/grandparents) for doves and pigeons...
It seems that Browning has done away with the Gold except for 10 bore and is tauting their Maxus $1,200 and Silver $1,000...I've not seen or handled either but their products have always been very good even with the long recoiling Model A5 which Franchi duplicated somewhat in their 48 line...Silver reminds me of the old B2000 in styling as both have that classic JMB hump from the A5 homage...
Remington has the 1100 $1,100, 11-87 $770, 105 CTI $1,550...I've shot the 1100 many times in different configurations and it's a classic and the 11-87 a few times and liked it, felt a little stiffer, not as responsive as the 1100 and the CTI is a really good clays gun...
Winchester has their SX3 supposed to be the fastest shotgun in the world, for $1,100...
I'd save a little bit more and get a Benelli or Browning followed by Franchi or Beretta and then Remington unless of course you can score something used, which would be the avenue I'd pursue...
Sorry, best I can do! Good luck, good hunting!

Re: Upgrading shotgun(s)
The Benelli Montefeltro is available for under a grand with a little judicious shopping.
I've had one for 10 or so years now and it's replaced pretty much everything else in the scattergun category.
And it looks good.

I have a Benelli M1 Super 90, with 3 barrels. So, it's now my "one size fits all" shotgun.
Re: Upgrading shotgun(s)
Thanks yall... I went a few places to see what my FN trade in would fetch... very dissappointing. i will probably have to go to the gun show with it.
I am encouraged by your advice. I fondled an SX3 and I will investigate the rest of your suggestions.
Thanks... more to follow.

Re: Upgrading shotgun(s)
I sold the FN at the gun show today and got far more than I could have at a Merchant of Death Retailer- but could not find much there I liked in terms of auto loaders. I found a Browning Gold Evolve for $799 (Bass pro) with tax that would just about use up all my current available funds.
Any one know anything about the Browning Gold Evolve? Everything I have read so far is fairly positive. I dont have small hands so that is not an issue.

Re: Upgrading shotgun(s)
Don't know if that's a good price or not but the gun certainly is...the Golds were getting very good reps, especially in the clays games for fast firing and much reduced recoil...Only complaint I'd heard is that they really didn't like super light loads but this was in a 3" mag chambering so that may have had something to do with it...They're fun guns to shoot!snarky wrote:Any one know anything about the Browning Gold Evolve? Is yours camo, black synthetic, what? What about choke tubes? Any, how many and what? Comes with 3--IC, M, F and options available for Skeet 1 & 2, cylinder, IM and XF? Pictures please...
Enjoy it, you will, and shoot it, as much as you can!

Re: Upgrading shotgun(s)
I didnt buy it yet. I came home to google it before I committed. Its blued with nice satin wood furniture. Its used and I didnt ask about choke tubes (need to do that). I takes 2 3/4 and 3" shells.
I am warming up to the idea. I could not find it online for less. It felt lighter than an 1100 or 1187 thats for sure. The Benelli's they had were all much more expensive.
