office new shooters

The place for beginners, or anyone else, to talk about gun, gear, and shooting topics with a minimum of jargon and/or geekery. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask that blows up in your face later.

office new shooters

Post by Frosch »

Tuesday our entire office (less a few who couldn't make it) went to Reds, along with 4
japanese engineers we had in town this week.

The Japanese were all totally new (of course) and had a great time. I broke in an office mate
who had never, ever shot (he's a Brit), plus a lapsed and a second-time shooter. Great fun.
We supplied all the arms and ammunition out of our <coff> personal stashes. I didn't shoot
much, functioning mostly as a range safety officer (God help us). I got three virgin scalps,
though.

The lapsed shooter kept saying, "mind if I go another round?", and commented afterward,
"man, that thing really feels nice" (GP-100).

Then we all went to the Salt Lick for beer and barbeque. Life is good.

Good for you and good for them.

Sounds like a great time and you did good.

I took a new shooter out the other day. She had a great time and wants to shoot my .22LR again soon. Not so sure about the "big guns" -- a couple of 9mm's. But she wants to shoot more,so I call it a win.

Oh, it's a win, all right. She needn't shoot a hand cannon to be on our side. Sticking
with the .22 for a while will build her skills, anyway.

Splendid. Keep up the good work.

I have some plans for an office outing too... I must get them dusted off.

She was a trooper.

She shot the .22LR pistol then the .22LR rifle (10/22), then 9mm in the full sized glock then we worked up to a smaller gun in 9mm (keltec PF-9) then over to the P3AT. The Glock, she liked the "lack" of recoil but it was just too heavy for her to keep on aim. The PF-9 was a bit too much on recoil. She really liked the .22LR pistol (Ruger MkIII) and the P3AT.

Seems like a lot of women like the P3AT, or at least women I take shooting.

Other than the 10/22 she opted against shooting rifles. I pre-warned her that the m-44 has some serious kick but the SKS isn't bad at all. Maybe next time.

The other upside, she told her mother about going shooting and mom promptly announced "I have a gun". Something completely unknown to my new shooter. Turns out that it hasn't been shot in 25 years, but still.
