Mentored hunting for adults an idea worthy of support
October 21, 2008
One of the best things that ever happened to hunting in Pennsylvania was the 2006 arrival of the state's mentored youth hunting program.
The program allows licensed hunters ages 21 and up to introduce unlicensed children under 12 to the sport in a controlled, one-on-one setting. Youths participating in the program are permitted to pursue squirrels, groundhogs, antlered deer and spring gobblers.
Since its implementation, I have talked with many parents, grandparents, uncles and other adults who have been thrilled with the opportunity to share their love of the outdoors with the children they love.

Mentored hunting for adults an idea worthy of support

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

I'm an adult (at least physically), and I'd love to go hunting. The problem is, most guys who'd want to go hunting (like me) have no idea where to begin to do such a thing.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

I totally agree.
When I used to hunt, the land I had hardly any wildlife worth hunting except for moose. And moose is hunted in groups, a number of landowners and hunters join together to get a higher quota, and go hunting together. The hunters take up positions and wait for a moose to come along. When one is shot there is always someone with butchering experience that does that part. Not much "hunting" in my opinion.
So I never really got into any serious hunting, just never had the opportunity. Must be lots of people like that around.
